A play off Tom Gauld's famous comic, "Our Blessed Homeland", which shows two civilizations alike in every way, except that each thinks the other is barbarous. In "Our Blessed Literature", I've swapped out all the labels for literary circle equivalents.

I am often drawn back to a formative reading experience in 2008: a column by Stanley Fish that gave me language for doubts I was having about the academic world. In “Will the Humanities Save Us?”, Fish considers the humanist appeal of an education in literature: a set of texts that might move us to better action.
